AB De Villiers won’t be leading South Africa in ODI

AB De Villiers won’t be leading South Africa in the 50-over format of the game anymore and will provide his services to the team only as a player.

50-over format was the only format in which De Villiers was in charge of the South Africa Cricket team. In the two other formats, the South African team was being led by Faf Du Plessis and now after De Villiers’ resignation, Du Plessis is almost certain to be given the responsibility of leading the team in the 50-over format as well. Du Plessis has had a good time as captain in test matches and in 20-over Cricket and after the Champions trophy debacle, many people were of the view that he should be appointed the captain of the One Day team as well. And it seems that De Villiers himself has also realized that it is in the best interests of South African Cricket that Du Plessis takes the charge of the team across all formats. WE STILL HAVE A LOT TO ACCOMPLISH – JP DUMINY

Just recently, the South African Cricket Team defeated their Australian counterparts in their own grounds during the three-Test series.

This came on the heels of two back to back wins over the same opponents on One-Day International (ODI) series at home where they won 5-0 and a 1-o win over New Zealand some time before that. However, it seems their recent victorious run is not enough for some of the team members as one of the most experienced cricketers in the South African squad, JP Duminy hopes that his team would improve, as they still have a lot to accomplish, considering that they are yet to live up to expectations in the ICC events. On iol.co.za, Duminy was quoted as having said, “It’s been an amazing journey. One that has been truly humbling.” (more…) Read more...

Unchanged Team for England Series

The selectors of the South Africa Cricket Team have named an unchanged squad for The Proteas’ upcoming series against The Three Lions of England, Cricket South Africa has announced recently. The naming of the same 15 players who did well to grind out a result in a3 match Test series against New Zealand at New Zealand for a 1-0 series win is being looked at as the selectors keeping faith on a winning formula and not tinkering with the team too much. South Africa takes on England in a three match Test series that kicks off at the beginning of July. South Africa are currently ranked number two as the second best Test team in the world behind England as per the rankings of the International Cricket Council or the ICC and according to Andrew Hudson, the convener of the selectors, depth of squad as well as consistent performances have given the team a lot of success and so, there was no news in naming any news players to the South Africa Cricket Team. He also went on to add that after the players put on a brilliant display to completely outplay the opposition in difficult conditions of New Zealand, they deserved a vote of confidence in them by the selectors. He further added that South Africa always looks for consistency and that has served the country well over the last few years and there has been no change of policy from that. Opener Graeme Smith will return as the captain of the South Africa Cricket Team after recovering from a surgery on his ankle and Dale Steyn will be the leading bowler for the formidable pace attack of The Proteas against The Three Lions. The Test series kicks off on the 19th of July and will conclude on the 2nd of August. Read more...
