South Africa has beaten Bangladesh in the 2-game T20 series by 2-0

South Africa has beaten Bangladesh in the 2-game T20 series by 2-0. After Bangladesh’s promising performances against top nations in home conditions, it was believed they would be able to run South Africa close as well, but, it wasn’t to be. South Africa proved to be too difficult an opponent for the Tigers as the series ended up quite one sided. The Bangladeshi bowlers, who had been so effective against India and Pakistan, continued their good work in this series too. But, it was the batsmen who failed to be up to the task against the high quality attack of South Africa which had a great mixture of pace and spin. In both the games, South Africa batted first and Bangladesh managed to restrict them to a score which could have been chased with a bit of application, but, it did not happen. Bangladesh fell short by significant margins. First game, they lost by 70 odd runs and second by 31. Both the teams had taken this series as a preparation for the World Championship coming up next year and if these performances are any hint, then, Bangladesh needs to improve batting. However, this has been a long season and Bangladesh has performed better than the expectations. So, there is no point for them to introspect too much. The One Day International series will start shortly and Bangladesh will like to make an impact in that. Their ODI side is probably more balanced than their T20 side. (more…) Read more...

South Africans are setting the stage on fire in the current edition

The South Africans are setting the stage on fire in the current edition of the Indian Premier League. Whether you talk about Faf Du Plessis, AB De Villiers or the big, mighty Morne Morkel, each one of them is being sensational so far. Hunting down more than 200 against Mumbai Indians the previous night at home, RCB were looking miles behind until De Villiers came in and smashed it all around. He found the long on fielder at the score of 41 and the job remained unfinished, but, it was one of the most thrilling knocks to have ever been played in the IPL. Ten more minutes of De Villiers that night and Bangalore would have won from the verge of defeat, he was in such lethal form, the Proteas skipper. Du Plessis maybe has not done that much with the bat and that’s because he has not had a settled batting position. He has got pushed to 6 or 7 at times, while, has been asked to bat 4 in a couple of games as well, but, in fielding, he has been as good as anyone else. In the list of the top catches of the tournament so far, Du Plessis features two or three times. As far as Morne Morkel is concerned, he has been the pick of the fast bowlers in the whole tournament along with CSK’s Ashish Nehra. The kind of zip Morkel has generated on lifeless Indian pitches, it’s brilliant. (more…) Read more...

South Africa isnt a Light Team for World Cup Title

South Africa might have lost the second practice match against New Zealand the other day, but, to start taking them lightly because of that result would be a big mistake. Players, sometimes, don’t get motivated enough to bring out their best in practice matches. But, come the tournament proper, there would be different sort of intensity. Also, the pitches on which the practice matches are being played are the side on pitches and they will not be used in the main games. The centre pitches will be used from where the boundaries on both sides will be at more or less at the same distance. (more…) Read more...

Quinton De Kock is terrible News for SA cricket Fans

Quinton De Kock’s recent injury is terrible news for South Africa cricket fans. The wicketkeeper batsman has been ruled out for two months and there is no certainty if he would be fit for the World Cup or not. De Kock is such an important player for South Africa, not just as a wicket keeper, but, as an opening batsman too. He has been groomed in the last couple of years and if he is not there in Australia-New Zealand, South Africa’s campaign would be affected severely. At this point in time, there does not seem to be anybody who is ready to take De Kock’s place in the top order if the young man’s recovery doesn’t go fast enough. (more…) Read more...

South Africa Team Missing JP Duminy

The South Africa Cricket team missed JP Duminy a lot in the recent 5-match ODI series against Australia. They were beaten in the last three games of that series in a row and they ended up losing the series 1-4. It was a blow to South Africa’s World Cup preparations. The World Cup will be hosted by Australia and New Zealand and South Africa was believed to be the best equipped overseas team for those conditions. But, now, after their comprehensive defeat there, people might start thinking differently. Duminy’s presence in the South Africa set up would have made a lot of difference in the series. South Africa often lost the plot in the middle overs and that’s because they did not have any experienced player batting at 5 or 6. Farhaan Behardein and David Miller are newer to international cricket. They have also played quite a few games, but, if compared to Duminy, they are not that wily. Behardein scored 60 odd playing at SCG, but, if that knock is barred, he was extremely ordinary and so was Miller. It was not only about Duminy, the batsman. Duminy, the bowler, would also have benefitted South Africa. The 30-year old right arm off spinner would have been handy as the 6th bowler for the Proteas, stopping the boundaries and also, chipping in with a wicket or two. He has got a golden arm; he has been a partnership breaker in the past. Duminy was actually in the original One Day squad that South Africa had picked for this tour, but, he sustained an injury playing in the T20s, in which he was the captain, and thus, he had to make his way back home. He would be back before the World Cup though. Read more...
