HUMILIATING DEFEAT

The captain of the South African T20 team, Faf Du Plessis, was absolutely gutted after the humiliating defeat of his team in the T20 match against Pakistan, but, he hailed the great performances by a couple of opposition players i.e. Mohammad Hafeez and Umar Gul. South Africa was defeated by Pakistan in the second T20 match of the series by 95 runs. This match was played at SuperSport Park, Centurion. The first match of the series was washed out. So, with this victory, Pakistan won the series by 1-0. Pakistan batted first in the second T20. The Pakistani captain, Mohammad Hafeez, was in a devastating mood and he took the Proteas bowlers apart. He scored 86 runs off just 51 balls. He hit 9 fours and 4 sixes. Because of the efforts of Hafeez, the Pakistani team managed to put up a huge score of 195 runs on the board. Chasing the target of 196 runs, the South African team started well. AB De Villiers played some majestic shots in the first few overs, but, as soon as Umar Gul came to bowl, things changed dramatically. Gul dismissed three Proteas batsmen in his very first over and put the South African team under huge pressure. The South African team didn’t manage to bounce back from that position and eventually got all out on just 100 runs. Gul got two more wickets later on and his final figures were 6/5. Hafeez also got three wickets and he was declared man of the match for his great all round performance. In the post match press conference, Du Plessis said, “Hafeez played one of the best T20 knocks that I have ever seen. He just smashed every bowler.” “We were off to a decent start while batting, but, Umar Gul bowled a great spell and once we were 5 down for 50 odd, the comeback was very tough.” Read more...
